NCCEFT Fundraiser: Sex as a Safe Adventure: Connecting Sexually and Emotionally Through EFT

Presented by:

Zoya Simakhodskaya, Ph.D., EFT Trainer,

and Michael Moran, LCSW, CST, EFT Supervisor

SUBJECT:

Many couples presenting for couples therapy may complain of sex issues: discrepancies in desire, lack of attraction or sexual compatibility, arousal or orgasm problems, challenges in the bedroom after having children, going through infidelity or in the wake of trauma, or considering and dealing with insecurity around non-monogamy. From the perspective of Emotionally Focused Therapy, such complaints are most often part of an underlying lack of security and bond in the relationship caused by the negative cycle between partners.  At times, as partners de-escalate and become more secure, sexual issues remain unresolved.  Yet, many EFT therapists lack knowledge and skill in the area of sex assessment and intervention. Introduction to up to date research on sexuality, relevant to EFT work with couples will be presented.  You will learn how to do a thorough assessment of the negative relational and sexual cycle so you can skillfully use EFT interventions to help couples move toward de-escalation. This workshop will also address how to integrate psycho-education and simple behavioral sex therapy interventions as couples begins to move into Stage 2, while at the same time, continue building secure bonds through increased vulnerability.  This workshop will include lecture, video examples, and experiential exercises.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Participants will:

A) Participants will be able to name different models of sexual response.
B) Participants will be able to apply techniques of sexual assessment in EFT           treatment

C) Participants will be able to identify negative cycle around sexual issues in           Stage 1 of EFT
D)
Participants will learn how to effectively use Stage 2 EFT interventions     around sexual issues to create a more secure bond in couples, that            lead to greater sexual fulfillment.

While NCCEFT works to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there will be occasional issues which will require intervention and/or action on the part of NCCEFT. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such complaints.

When a participant, either orally or in written format, files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken:

1. If the complaint concerns a speaker, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the complaint will be asked to put his/her comments in written format. The CE Program Director will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the aggrieved individual.

2. If the complaint concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the CE Program Director will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action during a workshop or conference, the CE Program Director or his/her representative will:

a. attempt to rectify the situation, and/or

b. provide a credit for a subsequent presentation, in the event of a program having an attendance fee or

c. provide a partial or full refund of the registration fee, in the event of a program having an attendance fee.

Actions 2b and 2c will require a written note, documenting the grievance, for record keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by the aggrieved individual.

3. If the grievance concerns the business practices of the NCCEFT CE program in a specific regard, the CE Program Director or Administrator will attempt to arbitrate.

REFUND AND ATTENDANCE POLICY:
